Beef with Broccoli

Beef with broccoli is one of the easiest, best-tasting recipes I have ever tried. We cooked this for our family plus a few visitors and it came together beautifully, but most importantly, tasty. We ate it as is in this recipe, but I would also love to serve it with brown or white rice in the future. I think it would add a new element of flavor as well as some carbs for all of us carb lovers!

We used a Painted Hills Natural Beef Top Sirloin for this beef with broccoli and luckily, you can shop those online or in-store!

A little about our beef:
The families of Painted Hills Natural Beef have been ranching in Central Oregon, specifically Wheeler County, in the shadow of the state’s famed Painted Hills, for generations. While times have changed in the last two and a half decades, our methods of ranching the way nature intended have not. Pasture raising our cattle without the use of added hormones and never given antibiotics. It means taking the time, care, and effort to do things right. It means raising a beef product for you that’s as striking as the natural wonders it’s named after.

Thank you for trusting us to feed you, your friends, and your family. We’d love to see the finished product! We hope you’ll tag us in a post on social media.

Serves

6 People

Ingredients

  • 1Tbsp.olive oil (can use vegetable oil)
  • 1Lbstop sirloin steak sliced into thin strips
  • 1Tbsp.more olive oil (for the pan)
  • 2xlarge broccoli heads, cut up into florets
  • 1xonion sliced - sweet or purple work best
  • 1 1/2C.low sodium soy sauce
  • 2Tbsp.packed light brown sugar
  • 2Tbsp.chopped garlic (I use the kind in a jar on a weeknight for ease of preparation)
  • 2Tsp.freshly grated ginger (this is a must…don’t substitute here, it is so worth it!)
  • 2Tbsp.cornstarch
  • 1/4C.beef broth (or water if you don’t have broth handy)

Instructions

  1. Mix all sauce ingredients (soy sauce, light brown sugar, chopped garlic, ginger, cornstarch, and beef broth) together and set aside.
  2. Heat 1 T olive oil in a pan (preferably cast iron) over medium high heat and once well heated, toss the beef in. Cook until outside is browned. Place in a bowl.
  3. Heat 1 more T olive oil and reheat the pan. Saute onion and broccoli a few minutes until they get a bit tender, and it’s better if they get just a bit of brown on them - around 5 minutes.
  4. Combine all ingredients in the pan together and cook, stirring frequently, until sauce is thickened.
