For more than 25 years, Painted Hills Natural Beef has been guided by a simple belief: doing right by our animals, our land, and our people creates better beef for everyone. Animal ethics and land stewardship are not trends for us. They are the foundation of how we ranch, how we do business, and how we support families who have made ranching their life’s work for generations.
Our mission says it best: Painted Hills Natural Beef will produce healthy, flavorful, high-quality beef for health- and quality-conscious customers, while creating economic stability on our ranches so families can continue ranching now and for generations to come. Every producer who is part of Painted Hills lives out that mission every day, from pasture to plate.
The Painted Hills producers are multi-generational ranching families who live and work on their own land across the Pacific Northwest. These are families who fix fence before sunrise, cut hay under wide-open skies, and care for cattle with the same respect their parents and grandparents taught them. Ranching is not just a job. It is a way of life, and the care they put into their land and livestock reflects a tradition built on responsibility, pride, and long-term stewardship.
Raising beef at nature’s pace is at the heart of the Painted Hills Natural Beef way. Our ranchers appreciate your concern for animal welfare and natural resource management because those values mirror their own. Humane animal husbandry and thoughtful land care guide every decision, ensuring rangeland stays healthy and productive for future generations.
Respect for our animals is paramount. Care begins at birth and continues throughout each animal’s life, with meticulous documentation of breed, ownership, diet, and veterinary history. Every animal is born, raised, and processed in the Pacific Northwest. Our cattle receive a 100 percent vegetarian diet, are never fed animal by-products, and always have access to clean water and ample space. If an animal becomes ill, it is treated promptly and removed from the Painted Hills program.
That same commitment extends to our natural feeding partners. Cattle remain on family ranches until about fourteen months of age before moving to clean, spacious feeding facilities like Y-1 Farms in Vale, Oregon. There, they are fed a carefully balanced diet developed with a cattle nutritionist, including corn, alfalfa, wheat, and select food by-products. Fresh feed, chemical-free water, ample space, and added vitamins support animal comfort, natural immunity, and beef quality.
This extra care shows up where it matters most, on your plate. It results in beef that is safe, flavorful, and consistently high quality.
When Painted Hills Natural Beef finds its way into your shopping cart or onto your dinner table, we want you to think of the families behind it.
