A World of Beef: Exploring 4 Global Dishes

Culture refers to shared values and practices, language, religion, and art, but cuisine has our attention. As ranchers and beef lovers, we tend to eat a lot of beef – and we mean a lot! Before our tastebuds get used to the status quo, we switch up our weekly dinners and tried and true recipes to explore global dishes. Grab a fork and pull up a chair to our table, we’re sharing how beef is more than just a tasty ingredient, but a way to connect with different cultures from your kitchen.

Let’s see all the ways we can tantalize your taste buds:

Russian Dinner Dish:

Beef Stroganoff: A French chef submitted a recipe to a magazine in 1891, but the dish existed before that as a Russian favorite. Beef stroganoff was created by a chef who cooked this dish for his employer, Count Pavel Alexandrovich Stroganov. Early versions used mustard and sour cream, with some variations including tomatoes later. Today, it’s a worldwide favorite, enjoyed for its creamy sauce and tender beef.

Indian Dinner Dish:

Beef Vindaloo: Indian cuisine is a kaleidoscope of spices, and beef vindaloo is no exception. This fiery curry features tender beef simmered in a vibrant red sauce bursting with chilies, ginger, garlic, and aromatic spices like cumin and coriander. Vindaloo has Portuguese roots, the name comes from “carne de vinha d’alhos,” a Portuguese dish with meat, wine, and garlic. Portuguese explorers brought the recipe to Goa, India, and it was adapted with local ingredients and ideas. Traditionally, vindaloo is made with pork, especially in Goa where there’s a strong Catholic community. However, beef vindaloo is more common in restaurants worldwide.

Irish Dinner Dish:

Irish stew: A warm hug in a bowl. Think melt-in-your-mouth beef simmered in a rich Guinness or dark beer broth, often with root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, and onions adding texture and sweetness. The pièce de résistance? A golden, flaky, buttery crust baked on top, creating a delightful contrast of textures.

French Dinner Dish:

Boeuf Bourguignon: Heading across the channel to France and decadent marinated beef slow-cooked in red wine, aromatics like pearl onions and garlic, and sometimes even mushrooms. This results in a luxuriously rich and flavorful stew often served with crusty bread for dipping.
